Consejo Mexicano de Ciencias Socialesは、1992年からメンバーになっています。
The COMECSO was established in 1977 with the objective of promoting the development of the social sciences in Mexico. Currently, it has 100 associated institutions from across the country, and has been reorganized into regional coordinations. These contribute to the diagnosis of the social sciences in the country and promote the creation of working groups and liaison networks to address interdisciplinary national and regional issues of interest to the social sciences. The outcomes of recent meetings have reaffirmed the objective of strengthening, updating and disseminating research and teaching in our disciplines.
The activities of COMECSO are overseen by its General Assembly, which convenes annually, a Steering Committee comprising eminent academics and official representatives from 13 universities across the country, and an Executive Secretariat that oversees the coordination and organization of the association’s activities.
From September 2024 onwards, the Executive Secretary will be Dr Ricardo López Santillán, a full-time researcher at the Peninsular Centre in Humanities and Social Sciences of the UNAM based in Mérida Yucatán.
COMECSO organises an annual national congress for specialists to present and discuss their recent theoretical and methodological contributions to the academic community, as well as the results of their research, diagnoses, evaluations and proposed solutions to the country’s problems. Next 2026, the X National Congress of Social Sciences ‘Social Sciences in the face of current uncertainties’ will be held in the city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, which will address and promote the exchange of knowledge based on evidence, i.e. the exchange of scientific knowledge. Our congresses are held every two years.
Every year we also organise the National Social Science Week and this year we are celebrating the eight edition. The 8SNCS, which will take place from 13 to 17 October this year, aims to promote communication, linkage and dissemination of our work in teaching, research and innovation in the Social Sciences through the development of activities that allow interaction and exchange between students, teachers and researchers and extra-academic audiences. To this end, you are invited to schedule and register the face-to-face or online activities you wish to share, such as seminars, book presentations, lectures and debates, audiovisual screenings, conferences, talks, exhibitions, among other academic formats that encourage the participation of students, teachers and researchers.
As this is a COMECSO proposal for the sake of decentralisation, it will be held in the places where the participants are based, with online presentations being the preferred option.
